These Terms of Service govern your use of the Hanahub platform. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these terms. Your use of the platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. If you do not agree to these terms or our Privacy Policy, please do not use the platform.

You agree not to use the platform to:
- Post unlawful, misleading, harassing, or harmful content.
- Infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others.
- Post spam, scams, or fraudulent listings.
- Attempt to disrupt, gain unauthorised access to, or misuse the platform.

Your content
You retain ownership of the content you post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce, distribute, sub-license to our service providers, reformat for technical purposes (including resizing images and changing file formats), and translate that content (including automatically, using third-party AI translation services), solely for the purpose of operating and improving the platform. This licence continues for as long as is reasonably necessary to operate the platform and fulfil our legal obligations, including content that remains visible to other members after your account is closed.
You warrant that you own or have the necessary rights and permissions to post the content you submit, and that your content does not infringe the intellectual property rights or privacy rights of any third party.
User content responsibility
You are solely responsible for any content you post on Hanahub, including its accuracy, legality, and compliance with applicable New Zealand law. Hanahub does not verify or endorse user-generated content and makes no warranty that it is accurate, complete, safe, or lawful.
We may remove any content that, in our reasonable judgement, breaches these Terms, is harmful or misleading, or exposes the platform or its members to legal risk. We may do so without advance notice where removal is urgent. Removal of content does not entitle you to a refund of points, reinstatement of the content, or any other remedy, unless we have acted in breach of these Terms.
Platform intellectual property
The platform and its contents — including its design, branding, logos, source code, and the Hanahub name — are owned by or licensed to Hanahub Limited and are protected by New Zealand and international intellectual property law. You must not copy, reproduce, or use any part of the platform or its branding without our prior written permission.
If you believe content on the platform infringes your copyright, please notify us at hello@hanahub.co.nz with a description of the work, its location on the platform, and your contact details. We will investigate and, where appropriate, remove infringing content promptly.
Listings and third-party dealings
Marketplace, jobs, flatmate, and event listings are created by members. We do not verify, endorse, or take responsibility for these listings or for any dealings between members. Please exercise your own judgement and caution when responding to listings or meeting people.
Events and in-person gatherings
Events on Hanahub fall into two categories.
Hanahub events are events organised and hosted by Hanahub Limited. For these events, we take reasonable steps to ensure they are conducted safely. You attend voluntarily and accept that some risks are inherent to any in-person gathering. Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, or any other New Zealand law that cannot be excluded.
Community events are events created and organised by members or third parties. For these events, Hanahub provides a listing platform only and does not organise, supervise, or endorse the event. We are not responsible for any injury, loss, harm, or incident that occurs at or in connection with a community event, including events that use external RSVP or booking links.
For all events, please exercise your own judgement before attending — particularly when meeting people you do not know in person. If you have concerns about the safety or legitimacy of any event, contact us at hello@hanahub.co.nz.
Community safety and conduct
Hanahub is a community platform and all members are expected to treat each other with respect. In addition to the acceptable use rules above, you must not:
- Harass, threaten, intimidate, or abuse other members, whether on the platform or in connection with meetings or interactions arising from it.
- Scam or deceive other members — including misrepresenting goods, services, jobs, or accommodation, or using listings to obtain money or personal information under false pretences.
- Send unsolicited commercial messages to other members using any contact or reveal features on the platform.
- Post repetitive, irrelevant, or low-quality content (spam) intended to flood listings or community boards.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these standards, consistent with our Moderation and termination clause.
Rewards and points programme
Hanahub operates a points and rewards programme. Points are awarded for certain activity on the platform and contribute to your membership level.
Points and levels have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred to another person. Points may be revoked or adjusted by us if content earning those points is removed for breach of these Terms. We reserve the right to modify how points are earned, how levels are calculated, and what benefits are available — we will give reasonable notice before material changes.
Sponsor benefits listed on the Rewards page are offered by third-party sponsors under their own terms and conditions. We do not verify, endorse, or warrant the availability, accuracy, or value of any sponsor offer, and we are not responsible for any dispute between you and a sponsor arising from a benefit claim.
Moderation and termination
We may remove content, or suspend or terminate an account, where the content or account breaches these terms or our community standards, or where we are required to by law. Other than in urgent cases (for example, unlawful content or a risk to other members), we will give you reasonable notice and a brief reason, and where practical a chance to put things right, before terminating your account. You may delete your account at any time, and you keep your rights under New Zealand consumer law set out below.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will let you know by email or an in-app notice at least 14 days before it takes effect, and we will update the "Last updated" date above. If you continue to use the platform after the change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, you can stop using the platform and delete your account before that date. Minor changes that do not materially affect your rights (such as fixing a typo or clarifying wording) may take effect when published.
Service availability
We aim to keep the platform available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend, restrict, or discontinue any feature or the platform as a whole for maintenance, legal reasons, or any other reason. Where practical, we will give reasonable advance notice of significant changes or planned downtime.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The platform is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the platform or from content or dealings between members. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, or any other New Zealand law that cannot be excluded. Where those Acts apply and cannot lawfully be excluded, they prevail over anything inconsistent in these terms.
Automated translation
To make the platform accessible across our community, content posted by members — such as community posts, comments, marketplace, job, and flatmate listings, events, and blogs — may be automatically translated into the platform's other supported languages (English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese) using third-party AI translation services. Where content is shown in a translated form, it is clearly labelled as AI-translated and the original version remains available.
Automated translations are generated by machine and may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. They are provided for convenience only, are not a substitute for the original, and we do not warrant that any translation is accurate or complete. Where a translation differs from the original content, the original version prevails. To provide this feature, content you post may be sent to our AI translation provider, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Language
These terms and our other legal documents are provided in English. Translations into other languages are offered for convenience only. If there is any inconsistency between the English version and a translation, the English version prevails.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any disputes.
Severability and entire agreement
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be severed and the remaining provisions will continue in full force. These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and Hanahub Limited with respect to your use of the platform and supersede any prior representations or agreements.
